Welcome to Ghent

Ghent is a lively city, proud of its rich past. It is not, however, a museum town, rather a successful mixture of impressive medieval buildings, fashionable shopping streets with magnificent city palaces, early 20th century working class quarters, now mostly inhabited by students and so much more. You will find lively squares where you can enjoy the lovely local foods and drinks at a pleasant terrace, all day and half the night.

Ghent offers the perfect mix for a short break, but if you really want to get to know this magnificent city, where Edward III was once proclaimed king of France, you will need at least two or three days, probably more.

If you wish to experience Ghent, contact the organisation specialised in welcoming tourists and showing them around: "the Royal Guides’ Association of Ghent and East Flanders".
